Akshay Talati MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON As we move into warmer weather the year always seems to get busier. By the time you receive this newsletter the NYSCC Supplier’s day will be right around the corner. This is one of the largest trade shows in the Cosmetics Industry and right in our neighborhood. Free round trip bus ride is available from the parking lot on exit 49 on the LIE. Also to avoid lines you can pre-register at www.curtainproductions.com. On April 4th we had 50 chemists from the Long Island chapter attend a most informative and practical course on Emulsions, given by John Carson. This group represented the future of the cosmetics industry and I would like to personally thank John and also the National Chapter for providing this course which will lay a strong basic foundation for all the chemists who attended. Chia Chen’s presentation on “Chinese & Ayurvedic Medicines for Cosmetics” laid out step by step requirements of the cosmetic industry for commercializing a new ethnic raw material. Proper documentation, sourcing, microbiological testing, safety testing and following correct regulatory and manufacturing guidelines are essential to bringing a raw material from the farms of China and India into the jars of today’s cosmetics. Saturday June 14th is the day you cannot book your summer vacation. The LISCC Summer picnic committee has already received a “Rain Free Sunny Day” pass from Mother Nature for our annual picnic. Don’t miss this fun filled event with lots of surprises for adults and children. Our first 2 meetings of the year have all turned up record number of attendance and we would like to keep this trend going for the rest of the year. Do you like challenges? Do you want to lead? Do you want to meet other members in the Cosmetic Industry? Why not get involved with the LISCC and be part of a fun and exciting group. We are now looking for members who will run for the upcoming elections for 2009 Chair, 2009 Treasurer and 2008 Secretary. It’s not only what you know and how good you are as a bench chemist. It’s also Who You Know. Ask any successful person in our industry and one of their most precious assets is the people they know.
